The conference will take place from Wednesday April 30th to Friday May 2nd, 2025!

WHO?

The College Association of Language and Literacy (CALL) is a faculty-led association with over 50 years of demonstrated leadership in post-secondary education. We are committed to creating opportunities for faculty (full-time and other-than-fulltime) to engage in conversations and professional development focused on pedagogy, technology, equity, SoTL research and so much more. We are also committed to hosting dynamic annual conference(s) focused on innovations in teaching and learning in the Ontario college sector. All of our events are planned with equity and access at the forefront.

This year's conference will feature over 30 presentations from faculty members across the Ontario college system!  A detailed programme will be made available in the coming weeks!

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

We will once again be joined by two exciting keynote speakers this year!

Keynote #1: Ryan Warriner: Topic and Title TBD

 

Ryan Warriner is a Professor of Communication, as well as the Director and Executive Coach of his own corporate communications training and professional speaking business. With over a decade of professional speaking experience and expertise, Ryan has mastered the art and science of enhancing communication.

 

Throughout his career, Ryan has performed thousands of professional presentations, while designing hundreds more. He has developed a compassionate, strategic, highly effective approach to navigate professional communication. He believes in systematic skill development to improve confidence, optimize messaging, and enhance overall delivery.

Keynote #2Nicole Johnson: Cultivating Trauma-Informed Spaces in Education

 

 

 

Nicole Johnson is a professor, researcher, and faculty-educator at Sheridan College who focuses on Trauma Informed Education. She, along with colleague Ida Gianvito, developed the Cultivating Trauma-Informed Spaces in Education: Promising Practices Manual, "a tool to support educators and educational institutions, through a preventative and harm-reducing approach, to support more compassionate, supportive, equitable and flexible learning spaces and workplaces." Since the manual first launched, Nicole has led the development of additional guides and support resources as well as launching the Trauma Informed Educator's Network this year.

 

 

In addition to over a decade of teaching excellence, Nicole brings over 20 years of experience in the social service worker field, focusing on trauma/violence against women and children. Her formal education includes a BA in Psychology/Sociology, a Diploma in Assaulted Women and Children’s Counselling Advocacy, and a Master’s in Education. Nicole is a certified trainer in Non-Violent Physical Crisis Intervention (CPI) and a Compassion Fatigue Specialist.

Did you know that participation at the annual CALL conference contributes towards TESL Ontario membership professional development hours?

 

Each hour of participation at a CALL conference equals one TESL PD hour and each hour presentation equals five TESL PD hours.

 

In order to have your participation at the CALL Conference officially recognized by TESL, please reach out to the CALL Board at info@callontario.org.  A PDF letter from CALL confirming your participation / presentation will be provided.
